Book of IROKO

Graphic Design

As a collaborative team, Professor Arroyo, Assistant Professor Chen, and Professor Gomez published a 148-page full color exhibition book that represents the legacy of the IROKO project. This publication presents the synthesis of creative expression, a multidisciplinary exhibition that incorporates artistic installations and multimedia art video. It features several pieces of artwork from my two digital mixed media series, Kapok Tree-Heritage of Piuma, Taiwan and Kapok-the Tree between Land and Sky. Those pieces were created based on the research of IROKO in Southeast Asia I conducted during Phase I, the exploration of this project. The publication also features extensively collaborative activities. The seven essays in this publication were contributed by ecologist, Carmen R. Cid, art historian, Maline Werness-Rude, sociologist Phoebe Godfrey and writers Isis Rakia Mattei, María Vázquez, Esperanza Cáseres Santa Cruz, Jaime Gómez, and Humberto Figueroa. Each essay addressed the IROKO in its own unique perspective and as a whole, they conveyed a broader message about art for social awareness and our interrelatedness to the natural world. Besides being one of the creators of this publication, I also served as art director and designer developing the entire book layout, cover and binding design.
